Who hails from Tauranga Moana, Tū is well know in the community through his tireless work at the Morrinsville Training Centre teaching te reo Māori classes. he was approached some years ago by the then Pastor of the Morrinsville Baptist Church Phillip (Piripi) Pawley to start running some classes at the Church, and the rest as they say is history.
Since the inception of these classes some 300 + students have registered and gone through the classes. Well done matua Tū and matua Piripi.
The kaiāwhina (helpers) are Margaret Smith:
Who helps with finances and funding.
The Reti whanau (family) Starr, Raine, Samuel and Skye.
(Starr) takes care of administration, enrolements, is one of the in class helpers, also responsible for designing, maintaining, upgrading and providing tech support for the Te Reo App, as well as upgrading, maintaining and providing tech support for the Te Reo Website. I also try to think of inovative ways to help the student succeed in thier journey to learning the Māori language. Hence the Te Reo App and Te Reo Website, aswell as some inovative revision lessons. I am also in the advanced Tūī class.
Raine, Samuel and Skye.
Are also in class helpers and an invaluble support team during waiata/himene, welcoming, and helping the students in the class. they are also working through the advanced Tūi class.
Maaka (Mark) Flintoff: We also bid farewell to our good friend Maaka, for his tirleess work and awhi oranising and supporting these classes, mihi atu ki a koe e hoa, kia kaha tōu harenga anō i te ako i te reo rangatira, kāhore e warewrae ōu whanau i tēnā.
