Our lessons involve learning some Tikanga (customs), himene/waiata (Hymns/songs), karakia (prayer) as well as saying a mihi (greeting), learning whakapapa (family tree) and learning to share your pepeha.
We try to plan a traditional hangi to show and teach the different processes involved.
We also have planned for later in the year a visit to a local marae to be a part of an official powhiri.
Our goal is to help people gain a love for the language by enabling them to learn correct pronunciation, direction of speech, greetings, how to say a mihi and share thier pepeha.
We do not charge for the classes held at the Morrinsville Baptist Church, but we do invite people to share in the cost be giving a Koha (offering/donation).
